MOUNJARO

The Mounjaro Guidance from the NHS England passed down to us via the ICBs

We understand that weight management can be a very personal and challenging journey, and we appreciate the effort you have made while taking this medication. We also recognise that changes to treatment can feel upsetting or frustrating, and we are sorry for any disappointment this news may cause.  Following a recent review, the practice has been tasked by our local Integrated Care Board (ICB) to ensure that all prescribing of Mounjaro strictly follows their updated guidance. The ICB has reinforced that GP prescribing is only permitted for patients who meet specific clinical criteria, including a high BMI threshold.

The Current guidance is:

💉 Mounjaro is currently only available on the NHS for a small group of patients, under strict criteria:

✅ You must:

      1. Be 18 or over
      2. Have a BMI of 40+, or 37.5+ if you’re from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background
      3. Have 4 or more weight-related health conditions (e.g. type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, heart disease)

🏥 It’s initially being prescribed by specialist hospital clinics and will be rolled out to GPs from late June 2025 – but only for people who meet the above criteria.

⚠️ It is not available for general weight loss or cosmetic reasons, even if you’re willing to pay privately.
